Welcome to The Attuned, a young adult contemporary fantasy/paranormal series where magic demands a price, choices echo through eternity, and the line between hero and villain blurs with every turn of the page.

Each book in this series explores the depths of power, sacrifice, and identity in a world where the veil between realms grows thinner with each passing day. Follow characters who must navigate impossible choices, confront their darkest fears, and discover that sometimes the magic we seek has been within us all along—waiting for the courage to embrace it.

To prepare for what is coming, stay focused, stay grounded, but most importantly, stay alive.

Settling into her new normal — where shape-shifters, fairy witches, and magic are real — 17-year-old Sarah D’Antonio must navigate between being a beacon for the supernatural and a junior in high school. Turns out, having a shape-shifting boyfriend brings perks, but it can also create problems, especially while preparing for the All Souls’ Day Gala.

And as she travels the wild astral plane, Sarah must learn who to trust to help her loved ones survive. Down to Earth can be read as a stand-alone, weaving Italian folklore and ancient Roman legend into a contemporary New England tale of demons, devotion, and the souls caught in between.

Down to Earth is Book 2 of The Attuned series by Jessica Natalie Reino, but it can be read as a stand-alone as well. On the face of it, Sarah D’Antonio is a typical high school junior. But her home is the fictional New England seaside town of Oceanbrook, which is surrounded by a mysterious forest. She herself is one of the Attuned, which makes her a beacon for supernatural creatures. Her boyfriend, Silvestro Vincent, is a shapeshifter and the prince of a realm inhabited by witches and other supernatural and legendary creatures. She can see people’s auras, including those who have troubled souls. As All Souls’ Day approaches, she must rely on her friends and family to help lost souls get to where they need to be.

Down to Earth is an unusual YA fantasy tale. Drawing on her own Italian and New England roots, Jessica Natalie Reino has crafted a story with an original plot, a feisty and resourceful protagonist, and a memorable cast of characters. Skylla and Kharbydis enjoying a quiet semi-retirement as bakers with the best cannoli in town is a nice touch — as is the sympathetic take on monsters and other usually feared supernatural creatures. Merging Italian folklore and ancient Roman legends with fantasy worlds adds an extra dimension to the story, as Sarah uses all her knowledge and experience to negotiate the dangers of dealing with demons. The empowering message makes this a good choice for YA readers, but fantasy lovers of all ages will enjoy the story.
